Accomplishments From My First Term

Since taking office as Portage Township Trustee, I’ve worked hard to make sure our community has the resources, support, and leadership it deserves. I’ve made it my mission to deliver real results for the people who live in our township, whether that means expanding access to food, improving housing conditions, supporting seniors, or stepping up in times of crisis. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together so far, and I look forward to continuing our work to improve the lives of everyone in Portage Township. Here are just a few highlights from my first term:

  • Portage Pantry - Opened the Portage Pantry, a food pantry with future goals of providing a dignified "grocery store experience" for those facing food insecurity with the largest food selection and broadest hours of availability within the city
  • Portage Commons Senior Enrichment Center - In partnership with REAL Services, we have opened the only permanent Senior Community Center in South Bend to ensure high quality of life for aging population
  • Property Inspection Program - Created a new property inspection program to ensure habitable conditions for renters within the Township with the goal of creating increased landlord accountability and increasing the quality of housing in South Bend
  • Emergency Assistance - Distributed a record number of support to those facing crisis
  • New programs for disadvantaged children and families:
    • Coats for Kids - provides new winter clothing for children
    • Uniform Giveaway - distributes over 1,000 new school uniforms
    • Baby Essentials Program - provides diapers and other baby-related products
  • NOURISH - Now in it's second year, created a program to teach eating healthy on a budget by providing hands-on classes and take home meal kits
  • Fought for Cedar Glen Residents - Prevailed on behalf of Cedar Glen Apartment residents who were without utilities for prolonged periods, leading to court-ordered oversight by the Attorney General's office
  • Fire Territory - Created a new Fire Territory to increase safety to residents and raise the wages of Fire Personnel to equitable levels
  • Portage Manor/Cemetery - Challenged the closure of Portage Manor and took over management of its Historic Cemetery to ensure preservation of 1,300 interned individuals for all time

But, There Is More To Be Done…

Our South Bend Community

My goal is to create an environment in our community that promotes healthy families, is a safe place to live, and provides a strong future for everyone.
